Love's Ashes is the opener for Amrit Kohli's first full-length album, an angsty song about love lost in Minnesota. Rubber Bullets is an anthem for the Palestinian people, who suffer tremendous human rights violations and atrocities that go unpunished and are committed by the Israelis. The hard-punching I, Phoolan Devi, is a tribute to the fallen "bandit queen" of India, who was assassinated on the day this song was written and recorded, July 25th, 2001. Phoolan Devi commanded an army of men who traveled the lands of India in search of the marauders of her youth. Can you blame her? She was gang-raped when she was only 15, sold into modern day slavery as a bride of a much older man when she was only 11, so she took up arms and would eventually go on a rampage of democracy. The album continues its heavy hitting songs with And Then Some, a song written for and about Ani DiFranco, one of Amrit Kohli's most cherished friends. The album closes with a song about the breaking apart of a relationship that was based on lies and deceit.
There is no shortage of drama in this album!
